The impact of technology in assessment continues to be an area of focus for education and assessment research agencies.

Cambridge Assessment has conducted a number of research projects analysing the impact of onscreen marking on the reliability of marking, with the most recent research being presented at the AEA-Europe Conference (Oslo, November 2010) and then published in Cambridge Assessment's Research Matters journal in January 2011.

The conclusions of this research are positive, i.e. the marking of essay-style responses, marked using RM Assessment's scoris assessor on-screen marking application, is as reliable as it would be if marking on paper.

RM believes that the conclusions of this research are a result of working closely with all its assessment partners, including Cambridge Assessment, to provide a solution that supports markers in their role. This enables them to focus on the marking task and not the technology.
